If you’ve ever wondered how Suess Moments came to life—this post is for you.
I’m Miranda Suess, a wedding and engagement photographer based in New Jersey and New York City. I specialize in whimsical, romantic, and true-to-color photography for couples who want their love story told in a magical and authentic way. But before I ever photographed a wedding, my love for capturing moments started with something simple: a gift from my dad.
My journey started when I was a kid. My dad gave me a point-and-shoot camera, and I was hooked. I’d dress up the neighborhood kids I babysat and do mini photoshoots with them, then print the photos and gift them to their parents. In high school, I took my camera to every party and uploaded photos of my friends to Myspace so they could use them as profile pictures (yep—that was definitely a thing back then!).
My dad saw potential in the way I composed my shots and encouraged me to apply for a job as a studio photographer at Walmart’s PictureMe Portrait Studio. I put together a little portfolio and brought it to the interview. I was hired on the spot at 17, and by 19, I was promoted to studio manager, leading a team of three. That job taught me how to pose people of all ages, manage group dynamics, and communicate confidently—skills that still serve me today in every wedding I photograph.
Like most teens, I eventually stepped away from the structured studio life. But photography never fully left me. When I graduated, my grandfather—who had worked as a police officer and a wedding photographer—gifted me a Nikon D90. It was my first real DSLR, and while I didn’t know how to shoot in manual yet, I slowly taught myself over the years.
The camera traveled with me as I moved from Phoenix to Scottsdale, Orlando, and finally Los Angeles. It often collected dust, but I always kept it close. When my grandfather passed away unexpectedly, I picked it up again. Photography became a way to feel close to him—and that passion was reignited.
I started taking photos of my roommates, the beach at sunset, LA architecture—anything that moved me. And then came a road trip to Joshua Tree with my boyfriend. I brought my camera and started shooting the landscape at golden hour. He asked me why I wasn’t just enjoying the moment, and I explained that this was my way of enjoying it. That was a turning point for both of us—he saw how much photography meant to me, and from that moment on, he became my biggest supporter.
Shortly after, we were invited to his cousin’s small elopement. No vendors, no pressure—just close family in a community room. I asked if I could bring my camera. With their permission, I quietly captured the entire celebration. My studio instincts kicked in as I posed the couple and their families with ease. It felt effortless… and fun.
Afterward, I spent hours editing the images. My boyfriend saw how focused I was and said, “You’re really good at this. Why don’t you charge people?”
He wasn’t the first person to say that—my dad and friends had suggested it before—but this time, it hit differently. That same week, I created an Instagram account and launched Suess Moments.
I started posting my first wedding photos and offered $75 portrait sessions and complimentary shoots to coworkers and friends to build a portfolio. I volunteered for styled shoots and built my portfolio from scratch. And then, just six months later, my boyfriend and I moved to Brooklyn with our two cats. I had to rebuild the brand from the ground up, this time in New York.

Since starting Suess Moments, I’ve become known for my whimsical, enchanting photography style. My galleries are true-to-color with a romantic, storybook feel. But what I’m most proud of goes beyond the photos.
I bring a calming, joyful energy to every wedding. I help my couples feel confident and natural in front of the camera. I understand what insecurities they may have, and I guide poses in a way that feels flattering and genuine. I’m organized, prepared, and deeply invested in helping couples feel fully present on their wedding day—not just stuck in front of the lens.
Photography has always been about connection for me. Whether it was bonding with my dad over camera gear, honoring my grandfather’s legacy, or making couples feel seen and celebrated—this craft has always come from the heart.
If you’re looking for a wedding photographer who’s equal parts artist, planner, and hype woman—I’d love to connect. You can see more of my work at www.suessmoments.com or follow along on Instagram @suessmomentsweddings.
