It was a cold winter day at Whitby Castle. As a result, photos were taken indoors by Suess Moments photography. Rain is a sign of good luck on a wedding day – and so is a ladybug! I believe this saying as it keeps most couples from going insane on their wedding day, and they can focus on what matters – being together and sharing that moment with the people they love most. I mentioned lady bug because one flew in and hung out with me as I took photos of the bride’s details (see below). Booking a great photographer who knows how to use off-camera flash will be the solution to your rainy wedding day since you have to photograph your wedding indoors.

I rate Whitby Castle among my top 5 venues I love photographing in New York alone. The place is so quaint, warm, and inviting whenever I photograph a wedding here. The staff is charming, fun, and hospitable. One time I had a major migraine, and someone helped me find complimentary Advil. Another time, the staff greeted me and asked if they could get me anything to drink. These are little things, but a simple smile and how are you? It goes a long way for me. Kindness and effortless attentiveness don’t fall short for the employees who work at Whitby Castle.
I am a wedding photographer and often pick up the tasks of a wedding planner and coordinator. On most occasions, I don’t mind it if the wedding party is more minor than 10 people. At Whitby Castle, the team picks up a lot of the heavy-duty work of a wedding coordinator. They have a great team who will help decorate the space alongside the floral designer and the instructions given by the couple. The venue is small enough that I can navigate and find the best spots for photos inside and out. The maitre D is typically easy to locate and communicate with to figure out logistics and timing that works with the flow of the wedding day.
I can’t tell you how much I love returning to Whitby Castle to photograph weddings.
Because this wedding took place in New York in mid-December, you can imagine the weather already being frigid. You can also imagine that wedding photos at Whitby Castle had to be indoors. Like below 40 degrees…on this wedding day, the couple was gifted with a good luck spell from the sky above, therefore all the photos were taken indoors. I was on a team of 1 videographer, 2 photographers (including me), and an assistant. There was a total of 4 of us. I recommend you check out the videographer, Ross Media, the couple hired here.
We started the wedding day in the bridal suite upstairs. The girls got ready with hair and makeup team in the board room next door and kept the bridal suite clutter free for the perfect bridal prep photos.Tips for beautiful bridal prep photos. While I photographed the bride’s journey, the 2nd photographer was with the groom and groomsmen on the main floor.
Next, we photographed their first look in the ceremony space and took portraits around the ceremony fully decorated by their dream floral designer, @flowersbyangel. The couple also wanted photos of the staircase and the beautiful bar. They met at a bar, so it was only fitting for their wedding portraits.Â
As the wedding day went on, photos continued to remain indoors. See the best pictures in the gallery at Whitby Castle below!
Indoor wedding photos at Whitby Castle didn’t stop indoors – because at night, during the reception – it’s best to take a photo outside Whitby Castle as the Castle venue is lit up at night. It makes an epic, beautiful, magical photo to remember the wedding day like a royal couple.
