If you’re planning a wedding at Perona Farms’ newest venue, The Reserve, you’re in for something truly special! I recently had the honor of photographing whimsical wedding at The Reserve at Perona Farms – it was one of the first weddings held at The Reserve since the renovation —and let me tell you, it’s quickly become one of my favorite North New Jersey wedding venues for couples dreaming of a romantic and whimsical celebration (with a flawless rain plan too!).

As a wedding photographer who edits bright and true-to-color, capturing candid moments at locations of fairytale charm, The Reserve checked all the boxes for both beautiful light and magical photo backdrops.

First Impressions: Warm Staff & a Bright, Beautiful Space

If you’re familiar with The Refinery at Perona Farms, you’ll be happy to know the team at The Reserve brings that same high level of warmth, professionalism, and attentiveness. From the moment I arrived, the staff made everything feel smooth and stress-free—something every couple (and vendor!) appreciates.

The Reserve also shines as a perfect rain plan venue. On this particular wedding day, the weather didn’t cooperate for outdoor portraits, but we barely noticed. The indoor spaces are bright, open, and full of charm—something you don’t always find in indoor venues.

My Favorite Indoor Photo Spots at The Reserve

Even with rain, there were so many dreamy locations to work with:

The Wine Cellar Brick Archway – a romantic and rustic setting, perfect for couples portraits at any point of the day
The Grand Staircase – ideal for first looks or editorial-style moments
The Covered Carport at Night – magical lighting for nighttime photos or dramatic exits with sparklers
Indoor Ceremony Space – elegant, clean, and serves as a stunning backdrop for your “I dos”, and family and wedding party portraits too!

If the weather is nice, you’ll also have access to whimsical outdoor spots like the lake at sunset, whimsical willow tree swingset, roadside hidden hobbit door, and dreamy tree-lined paths. It’s a photographer’s playground!

Getting Ready: The On-Site House vs. The Venue (The Truth)

The couple I photographed got ready in the on-site house, which is thoughtfully divided with the groom downstairs and bride upstairs. While this setup offers great privacy, the rooms are a bit tight and lack ample natural light for those airy, bright prep photos.

Photographer Tip: I recommend doing most of your getting-ready photos at the venue itself instead. There’s more space, better light, and a cleaner aesthetic that aligns beautifully with light and true-to-color photography styles like mine!

Cocktail Hour & Reception Vibes

The cocktail hour space is such a vibe! It’s chic, open, and flows into an outdoor patio—ideal for mingling and a great spot to add a wooden name sign for the greenery photobooth backdrop.

The reception room at The Reserve feels more intimate, with lower ceilings and a romantic, moody ambiance. It’s perfect for those cozy, candlelit vibes and emotional first dances.

And of course—the food is top-tier, as always at Perona Farms.
