Seriously though, when will be another time you can go all out and wear something special other than high school prom, as a wedding guest with a black tie theme, or for your engagement photos? I beg you, please, don’t pass up on an opportunity to wear a romantic and flowy dress for your engagement photos!

Tips: Perfect Engagement Photos Dress

As a professional photographer who captures romantic and dreamy engagement photos for couples, there are tips (more like secrets) I’d like to share with you so that you can shop for the most romantic engagement photos dress online.

• Don’t worry about what your partner is wearing until you know what you’re wearing first
• The flowier the dress or skirt, the more romantic your engagement photos will look
• When shopping online for the romantic dress, be sure to read the return & shipping policy, and review the size chart before placing any orders
• Plan ahead! Just in case the dress isn’t the right fit for your body type and you end up changing your mind
• If you adore the dress, take it in for alterations so it becomes the perfect fit
• Sometimes I hear ladies complain about their insecurities, like arms – please choose a dress that’s off-the-shoulder or long sleeve to hide those insecurities when wearing your beautiful engagement photos dress
• Try on your engagement photos dress with shoes and see if it works length-wise – otherwise consider taking it in for alterations so you don’t trip over the dress at your photo shoot
• Fabrics that look dreamy in engagement photos are chiffon and tulle. Some designers will make dresses in polyester which usually works.
• Stay away from engagement photos dresses with floral prints and abstract patterns. Especially do NOT buy a dress with horizontal stripes. These patterns can cause you to look larger than you are or cause a distraction in your photos when really it’s about you and your connection – not the design print on your dress drawing the attention.
• Stick with a solid color
• Over-the-top sequins will cause bright spot reflections – I recommend you stand clear of wearing a sequin gown, especially wearing it during daylight, taking photos in the sun
• Think of your environment and the color of the dress you want to wear. For example, if you plan to have engagement photos in a lush green field, forest, or park – do not pick a green, orange, or yellow dress – I recommend a dress in blue, pink, red, purple, or neutral tone instead. Would you rather wear a color like green, orange, or yellow – you can! I would recommend a place without so much green in your background.
• Get inspired on Pinterest and Instagram and just search engagement photos to get inspired by what others have worn
• Do a google search on “Prom dress” “Maxi dress” “A-Line dress” and “Couture gown” and you will find the perfect engagement photos dress
• I think I already said this, but FLOW matters. Pick a dress with lots of flow to the fabric for a romantic engagement photos vibe. That’s the best tip I have!
