Which season was this wedding
This wedding at Birchwood Manor New Jersey (NJ) took place in October, the fall. The oddest part about this wedding day was that it happened on a day that was as warm as a nice sunny summer day – over 80 degrees fahrenheit!!! So they got to have their wedding outdoors. It was absolutely beautiful.

How this wedding was unique
- The groom was working on his computer in the morning, preparing the shot list and schedule for the ceremony and reception
- The groom had the hair stylist work on his hair after the bride was finished
- The groom and his groomsmen are fans of Dungeons and Dragons and incorporate the theme subtly. Like, the cake topper and flat-lay details. Even photo poses later in the day!
- The bride had two wedding dresses
- The bride wanted a private moment, a tradition in her culture, before the ceremony, where the bride’s parents place the veil over her head
- The couple each asked their set of parents to escort them down the aisle
- The wedding guests had bubble wands to blow throughout the ceremony – the kids LOVED this
- At the reception, the couple requested to take group shots, and the groom used the DJ mic to call out groups to meet them on the dance floor
- The couple wanted a private moment (no photos) eating together alone in the bridal suite
- Instead of a bouquet toss, the bride arranged ribbon around the bouquet, but one ribbon could not be pulled. Whoever picked the ribbon that was attached to the bouquet, got it! Guess who won the bouquet? The maid of honor.
- The couple planned their parent dances at the same time.
Things to know before you have a wedding at Birchwood Manor
As a wedding photographer, I try to prepare my couples to have a stress-free and fun wedding. Before booking your wedding at Birchwood Manor, these are things to know:
- The 2nd level bridal suite has no windows. Please choose a photographer who can photograph with flash. Also your hair and makeup artists need to bring their own lighting.
- The 2nd level bride & groom suites are within 100 feet from each other and the groom’s suite does not have a bathroom, thus, it is important to make certain that the bride doesn’t leave her suite.
- The bride suite is MASSIVE. Can seriously fit about 30 people in there. Plenty of seating and even extra rooms with floor-length mirrors for changing or hair/makeup application. This also means there are at least two bathrooms in there. It’s AMAZING for preparations!
- This wedding venue is big! It can host multiple events in one day. So keep in mind, you may not be the only couple and really good signage is important to direct guests to the correct event.
- Because multiple events can happen in one day, the photo schedule has to be strategic and the locations to shoot at too.
- If you get as lucky as we were on this wedding day, with no other events, then you could use other rooms/venue spaces withing Birchwood Manor for indoor photo sessions like we did for private moments with the parents/ and family shots.
- The food here is delicious.
- The place is very clean and well-kept. Looks historic but barely touched.
- Do you love the idea of a family-owned business? This is it.

You may notice how silly some of these photos are. I love that about this couple – not afraid to let out…the child inside. I had a great time photographing them traditionally with a touch of personality throughout their best day ever.
