As a wedding and couples Brooklyn, NYC photographer, I struggle in finding my consistent photo editing style because I get inspired by each theme, couple and lighting scenario of every session. Who cares if I offer a variety of styled to my couples, right?! I did narrow down my style to be either moody or colorful. Scroll down to learn the differences and which you like more.
If you’re on social media at all, you have seen the endless trends of photo editing styles. From orange and teals, bright whites and blues, grainy and moody, and bright and airy. This blog is to help clients of mine decide on which of Suess Moments’ photo editing styles they like better for their photos – is it the moody or the more colorful?
What some people forget when hiring a photographer is the post production process of photo editing. Although, sometimes lucky, it is not always as easy as slapping on a preset and done, send to the client. Depending on every photo session, it’s style/mood, lighting conditions, and colors the subjects wore will depend on the photo editing process style. I do tend to take my time when editing a timeless gift for my clients- this includes airbrushing, blemish removal on top of curating the color correction process. Most clients trust me to make my best judgement on their photos in post. Whether it be more “moody/dark” or “colorful/film/bright” photo editing style – however, you can see photos below to make your best judgement on what you prefer:)
Moody photo editing style has become the 20th century trend. My moody photo editing style comes from Dirty Boots and Messy Hair presets with slight modifications. You can see more of the moody photo editing style trend on popular instagram accounts like: @DirtyBootsandMessyHair @HenrysDiary @ElopementLove @HeyWildCollective @IndiaEarl
If you can identify with hipster fashion or boho chic design or simply an adventurous kind of person – you may prefer the moody trendy style.
Below is an example of the moody edits from this Williamsburg, Brooklyn engagement session around golden hour.
Colorful photo editing style is classic. Ever since digital editing on Lightroom and similar professional photo editing software has become a new norm for professional photographers. I personally favor over this style for people who like the bright and traditional look with the perfect pop of color.
Below is an example of the colorful edits from the same Williamsburg, Brooklyn engagement photo session around golden hour.

“Miranda was so lovely to work with. I gave her an inspiration board of the mood I wanted for our engagement photos and she executed them perfectly! She made us feel really relaxed and I just love the final photos. She sent over so many final photos and we only had a 90minute shoot!” – Dawnie from Facebook
